It is thought to have originated in China and has its roots in ancient Taoist traditions. At HAC we combine this ancient tradition with current day research and scientific understanding of how Acupuncture effects the body. Modern Acupuncture is performed by inserting fine needles into specific points along the body that has been shown to locally relieve pain, relieve muscle tension, move fascia and globally effect how the brain both functions and interprets bodily signals.

Telehealth is an ideal way to continue care either with virtual acupuncture, prescribed herbal medicines, nutritional / lifestyle advice and more. We can discuss what best ways to be pro-active with this possible down time to achieve your goals.

Q&A

1. How can Telemedicine be helpful if I can’t get acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a great tool we have as you know. In unprecedented times where we can’t provide you with regular in-person acupuncture, Practitioners of Oriental Medicine (L.OM) can lean more heavily on the other branches of medicine in the field such as custom herbal formulas, nutrition recommendations, and guided acupressure to name a few options. This way we can continue to support you and your overall health.

2. What’s Virtual Acupuncture

After scheduling, we’ll reach out with payment instructions and instructions on pick up or delivery of stick on mini acupuncture needles. During the video chat appointment, we’ll do a normal, short consult and then I can guide you as to how and where to apply the stickers. It’s super easy and the stickers are barely perceptible. Then lay down for 25-30 minutes just like you were in the office for a good acu-nap!

3. What are Fertility Navigation Teleconsults?

We can discuss what best ways to be pro-active with this possible down time, as well as discuss the latest information on getting pregnant and delivering right now. Includes advice for custom herbal formulas, nutritional supplements and lifestyle changes to keep you moving in the right direction towards conception.

Steve co-founded HAC and has been an acupuncturist and herbalist since 2001 and was named Best of Philly for 2017. Though he treats a wide variety of conditions, he has been focusing on female and male infertility since his first month of practice. Working hand-in-hand with reproductive endocrinologists and even treating on-site at fertility clinics, Steve has helped pioneer the acupuncture for fertility field in Philadelphia. His practice also includes other focuses including headaches and migraines, menstrual issues and menopause, anxiety, and fibromyalgia.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Psychology, Steve began his Chinese Medicine training in Shanghai, China at YueYang Hopsital. He went on to receive his Masters of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at the oldest acupuncture school in the US, the New England School of Acupuncture. He returned to Philadelphia with the hopes of bringing an integrated approach to hospitals, as he first learned in Shanghai, where eastern and western medicine were well intertwined for the betterment of the whole patient. After hitting many walls, he decided to start his own center and partnered with Dr. Silverman along the way.

Steve is the host of the fertility podcast Waiting for Babies. He is the former President of the Association of Professional Acupuncture and is faculty emeritus at the Won Institute of Graduate Studies. He’s been featured in Philadelphia Magazine, NBC 10, Philly Style, and CBS Health Watch for his work with infertility.
